As seen across Toronto Harbour nearly a month ago now, steam devils rise above Lake Ontario and behind the wintery, skeletal, but treed expanse of the Toronto Islands. In the foreground, the iced over harbour is free of steam devils, as the phenomenon depends upon open water, warmer than the air above it, its moisture pulled upwards, helping to grow clouds.
