Carpenters’ Union Local 27 recently hosted a large delegation of visiting Nigerian mayors, city builders, planners and advocates for women, offering the visitors a tour of the College of Carpenters and Allied Trades (CCAT) training centre in Vaughan, Ont. Among the hosts for the May 9 event were several rank and file carpenters of Nigerian and Senegalese origin. Pictured, Temi, who is a second-term apprentice with Local 27 and was a medical doctor back home in Nigeria, spoke to the guests about her experiences in the Toronto construction sector.
