Our take

Kask is an Italian company best known for its cycling helmets, and the Superplasma HD brings that know-how to the jobsite. It's one of the most popular helmets among arborists, rope access workers and rescue teams, and it's catching on with tradespeople who work at height.

The Superplasma is light, at roughly 450 g, and very well ventilated. Ten air intakes with anti-intrusion grilles move air across your head while keeping out debris. On a hot roof or in a lift in July, that airflow makes a big difference.

The outer shell is ABS over a high-density polystyrene inner shell. Kask's Up&Down 2.0 fit system adapts to your head as you move, and the 2Dry padding is a quick-drying fabric that moves sweat away from your head. A chin strap is built in. The shell has attachment points for visors, headlamp clips and earmuffs.

Here's the important part. In North America, the Superplasma HD is certified to ANSI Z89.1 Type I, Class C. It also meets the European EN 12492 mountaineering helmet standard, which includes tests for shock absorption and chin strap strength. That makes it an excellent helmet for climbing and work at height, but under ANSI it's rated for top impacts only. It isn't a Type 2 helmet, even though it looks like one. And as a vented Class C helmet, it offers no electrical protection.

If your site requires Type 2, look at the Kask Zenith X2, which is Type II certified.

For work at height in hot weather, where weight, airflow and a secure chin strap matter most, the Superplasma HD is one of the most comfortable helmets you can wear. Just make sure its rating matches your site rules.
