A plumbing vent is a term used in mechanical design and construction. A vent is installed alongside the lines that carry waste out of your property. Plumbing vent pipes are designed to provide air to the piping in your system, allowing it to regulate air pressure and for odors to escape the system through.

As smells draft upwards, plumbing vents are normally connected in a system or stack that is terminated above the roofline of a structure. This keeps odors from affecting people at grade. These systems are normally installed with PVC or aluminum piping.
