Every wonder why a certain code provision exists, or says what it says? Never fear, the Canadian Board for Harmonized Construction Codes (CBHCC) has released its intent statements supplement to the 2020 National Building Code. For each section, the intent statement clarifies the objective of the section and the particular building science problem it seeks to mitigate. Settle in for a long read!
“The Intent Statements also help code users understand what alternative solutions must meet,” the CBHCC says. “These statements are a resource for professionals who rely on the Codes for design, construction, enforcement, and compliance.”
The Intent Statements are available to view or download for free by visiting the NRC’s Publications Archive.
