Amid all the excitement about the opening of Biidaasige Park earlier this summer on the west side of Toronto’s Port Lands, memories have faded a bit for a much smaller gem that opened on the east side of the Port Lands last year — Leslie Lookout Park. Perched at the blunt end of the Ship Channel, this park makes a virtue of its still active industrial port location, giving visitors a chance to watch Great Lakes freighters unload cargo from its sandy beach. In this nighttime image, crushed stone pours out from the Algoma Compass onto a pile at Strada Aggregates, no doubt feeding Toronto’s insatiable growth. Behind, the smokestack of the Hearn Generating Station looms overhead.
