When I last wrote about Augmenta, the story was a startup proving that generative design could shorten electrical raceway work from weeks to hours while improving quality, with Mt. Hope Elementary School as the proof point. Since then, the company has crossed what I called the hardest ConTech threshold: repeat usage, with customers returning for second and third projects.
Now, Augmenta has launched version 2 of its Augmenta Construction Platform (ACP), and the update changes how the tool fits into a project, not just what it produces.
I caught up with co-founder Aaron Szymanski to learn what changed and why it matters for electrical contractors and the trades that coordinate around them.
From one-shot generator to interactive collaborator
ACP V1, released last September, worked as a one-shot operator. A user set up the building, hit generate, and got a complete raceway design to take into Revit. That got contractors to the first coordination meeting fast, but once coordination started and ducting or piping shifted, there was no new, faster way to make small, localized fixes. Teams were back to manual work in Revit for every change.
ACP 2.0 replaces that with an editable, interactive workflow. Users can drag a rack, delete a section, and have ACP reroute it, or sketch where they want main runs and let the system route the branch work automatically.
Aaron describes the shift directly: “In the past, ACP would sort of be like this third party that you’d send a job to, and it would come back with the fully completed job.” Now it works alongside the user, who decides how much control to keep. “I can give it as much freedom as I want, or I can have as much control as I want.”


Real-time clash detection built into the same loop
The interactive model extends into clash detection. When a new background model, structural or mechanical, loads into ACP, the system flags clashes against the updated background geometry. Users can leave a clash to negotiate later or resolve it on the spot by moving or adjusting the affected section.
What stood out in the demo I saw was how loosely specified the input can be. A user can sketch a simple 2D line indicating intended pathways, and ACP treats it as design intent rather than a literal path, adjusting bends and clearances as needed. That also opens the workflow to people who are not modelers: a foreman comfortable sketching in Bluebeam can guide the system without ever touching Revit.
No Revit license required, and routing goes underground
Because the entire interaction happens in the browser, anyone on the team, BIM coordinator, project manager, or field staff, can make design changes without Revit expertise or a license. That extends ACP’s use to the full coordination period, potentially spanning weeks or months.
ACP 2.0 also adds full underground routing, a gap in V1 that limited its usefulness for contractors who push as much work underground as possible. Combined with browser access and the new interactive controls, Aaron sums up the release this way: “We have an interactive workflow, a coordination workflow that means you can use it through the whole project, you don’t need Revit so anyone on the team can use it, and you can route overhead and underground.”


The numbers behind the pitch
Augmenta now has 42 buildings built with ACP-designed electrical systems, including at least six hyperscale data centers, and reports that customers save up to 3x on time compared with manual methods using the prior version. Early results with V2 show steeper gains, 4x to 10x on some projects, including one job that would normally take 40 to 50 hours of manual routing finished in four hours.
Aaron calls these early signals rather than a settled average, and that caution is warranted. What will matter is whether 4x to 10x holds up once more customers and more project types run through it. One data center customer offers a more seasoned data point, from the prior version: a typical six-week floor-by-floor schedule became two to three days for the entire data center, putting them six weeks ahead of schedule on the second floor.
The case for prefabrication is equally direct. Contractors can only prefabricate what they have modeled, and modeling time is usually the bottleneck. C&R Electric, the contractor behind the original Mt. Hope Elementary project, saw the time for full coordination on a more recent project drop from a typical month or two to one to two weeks. Furthermore, this change enabled a 10 to 15 percent reduction in material through expanded prefab use.
As Aaron explains it, “The more I can model, the more prefab I can do, and prefab, from a material perspective, is the key driver for waste reduction and for cost reduction inside electrical contractors today.”
Tackling the labor issue
Companies struggle to recruit people who grow into top-notch professionals over many years, and senior staff is retiring, taking decades of judgment calls with them. There’s pressure to make students graduate quickly, resulting in newcomers with knowledge of design tools and theories but not so much practical skills.
Augmenta’s answer is to embed that judgment directly into the design process rather than rely on it being passed down from person to person. The system handles the laborious, decision-heavy parts of raceway design, letting less experienced designers produce results that would normally take years of trial and error to learn. The goal is not to turn novices into instant experts, but to enable existing staff to work more closely to the level of seasoned professionals, regardless of seniority.
ACP 2.0 reinforces this. Because the interactive workflow runs in the browser, project managers, field staff, and junior team members who are unlikely to become Revit experts can still meaningfully participate in coordination. That widens the pool of people doing useful design work, the same pool the industry is struggling to fill.
What is next
Aaron was guarded about specifics but pointed to two directions. First, Augmenta is moving upstream, helping contractors prepare projects for coordination rather than only accelerating the coordination workflow itself, as compressed schedules make upstream prep the real bottleneck. Second, mechanical and plumbing workflows are in development, routable independently or together, with initial pilots targeting a fully coordinated MEP system generated in a single pass.
“We’re trying to eliminate the coordination meeting as a process people do. Today, coordination is an expected part of the design workflow, but it doesn’t have to be,” Aaron stated. Pilots for the combined MEP workflow are planned for late this year into early next year.
I imagine coordination meetings will not disappear even if the designs are clash-free. But Augmenta’s vision would let project participants focus on other critical matters: trust-building, scheduling, and information exchange, rather than untangling routing conflicts. Augmenta has already done the harder part once, turning a one-shot tool into something contractors return to for a second and third project. For me, that is a clear sign of future success.
