A combined federal and provincial contribution of $9.1 million to expand and upgrade the City of Dauphin’s lagoon system is part of a $34.4 million funding announcement made that will support 10 wastewater and waste management projects in Manitoba. Work at the facility will include work on its lagoon reactor system, a new sewage treatment facility and new pipes in an aim to increase capacity to treat and manage wastewater and to accommodate population growth.
Also set to be upgraded is the wastewater treatment system in Neepawa, which will be expanded to treat and manage wastewater and storm water. That project involves implementing a Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor system, upgrading the treatment building, and adding a lab, among other works.
In total, the Canadian government is providing more than $18.7 million, with the Manitoba government providing more than $15.6 million.
“Investments in infrastructure stimulate local economies and create jobs for Manitobans, in addition to facilitating municipal growth,” stated Reg Helwer, Minister of Labour, Consumer Protection and Government Services. “This lagoon expansion and upgrade will significantly improve Dauphin’s wastewater system and support efficiency, sustainability and a cleaner environment in the Parkland region for years to come.”

The Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program is providing $33.5 billion over 11 years for public infrastructure across Canada. To date, the program has approved more than $20 billion for over 4,500 projects in communities across the country.
