Light House, a leader in regenerative and circular built environments, today announced that Brenda Martens, a long-time champion of sustainability in BC’s construction sector has assumed the role of board chair, succeeding John Holland, senior advisor at Pinchin.
Holland, who joined the Light House board in 2008, has served as chair, guiding the organization through key sustainability initiatives and numerous market transitions. His tenure strengthened Light House’s reputation as a force for sustainability in the built environment. Holland will continue contributing to Light House as treasurer and a valued board member, along with James Boothroyd of Boothroyd Communications; Perry Gorgounis, vice-president of CBRE; Jennie Moore, director of the BCIT Institute of Sustainability; and Alfred Waugh, president of Formline Architecture.
Martens brings over 35 years of experience as a pioneering green building consultant, having been the principal-in-charge of sustainability for landmark B.C. projects such as the Vancouver and Whistler Athletes’ Villages. A LEED Fellow and a member of the Order of British Columbia, Martens contributed to the LEED Canada guidelines, the Living Building Challenge (LBC), and has developed several courses on circular economy and regenerative building. She currently serves on Metro Vancouver’s Solid Waste Public and Technical Advisory Committee; the CSA’s Technical Committee on Circular Construction, the Model National Code Committee on Climatic Data, and previously served on the Cascadia Green Building Council board during its release of the LBC.
