The specialist concrete contractor has broken ground on the next stage of the scheme for the Midland Metro Alliance, building on its earlier delivery of the Delta Junction works on Phase 1.
The Phase 2 package hands MPB responsibility for the full civils scope, covering more than 600m of new infrastructure along the route.
Work includes the movement of more than 30,000m³ of stone and excavated material, installation of 1,260 tonnes of sheet piles and 8,700m of bored piles, placement of 7,000m³ of structural concrete and erection of 622 tonnes of structural steelwork.
Major engineering elements include a 225m multi-span viaduct and a 100m bored pile reinforced concrete slab constructed onto an existing railway embankment.
The job marks MPB’s second major commission with the Alliance, underlining what the firm says is a strengthening long-term partnership on complex transport infrastructure.
Board director Sean Boyle said starting Phase 2 is “an extremely proud moment” for the business, adding that it reinforced MPB’s commitment to delivering large-scale, technically demanding schemes that connect communities.
