The 85-storey ‘supertall’ One Bloor West continues to rise above Yonge and Bloor in Yorkville. Designed by Foster + Partners with Core Architects, UrbanToronto’s last update in September, 2025 covered completion of the top floor of the Tridel-helmed project. Since then, construction has significantly progressed on the complex assembly of the steel superstructure that will form a chamber for a tuned mass damper (TMD) at the tower’s crown. 

The TMD is a precisely engineered counterweight system that reduces sway in tall buildings. At One Bloor West, it will consist of a massive, multi-tonne steel weight suspended within the crown. When high winds cause the tower to move, the damper will shift in the opposite direction, absorbing the energy and keeping inhabitants of the building comfortable.

In this late-October, 2025 drone view, structural steel beams extend directly from the eight concrete and rebar megacolumns that define the tower’s frame. In the centre, heavy H-beams and diagonal bracing members now interlock in X-shaped configurations, forming a rigid structural box that will stabilize the damper system. An orange boom lift in the central bay is there to assist in aligning and fastening connections between the posts and beams. This steel assembly outlines the damper chamber.

Over the final week of October, crews installed additional horizontal beams and corner connections, completing the perimeter ring that unites all four sides of the chamber. This interconnected steel grid locks into the reinforced concrete elevator core below, providing the rigid framework required to support the damper and transfer loads evenly.

Facing southwest this month, the image captures the intricate geometry of the steel cage, including diagonal cross-bracing. A beam projects outward on the north side from the central chamber to the extension of a megacolumn, with more to follow.

Looking north most recently, the crown structure has advanced with new steel trusses linking the TMD chamber to the megacolumn extensions. Just above the uppermost slab, meanwhile, steel assemblies extend out to the megacolumns where penthouse suites will boast upper level access to corner terraces. Meanwhile, the weather-protecting Rail Climbing System (RCS) seen below for cladding installation has risen again, with the east RCS now stationed at the 72nd floor.

When complete, One Bloor West will stand 308.6m tall. With Tridel moving to cancel presales, the developer is opting for larger units, with the most recent proposal calling for 411 suites, down from 476 previously, alongside 139 hotel rooms.
