The Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA) is reaching out to Lower Mainland municipalities in British Columbia asking them to work together to safeguard infrastructure projects from potential disruptions due to tariff threats from the Trump administration.
The organization says it is committed to collaborating with municipal leaders to ensure critical infrastructure and other construction projects remain viable, explaining that a proactive approach can help maintain a competitive and fair procurement process while addressing economic uncertainties.
“We are initiating these important conversations to collaboratively build stronger procurement processes that benefit both municipalities and the construction industry,” said VRCA president Jeannine Martin. “By working together, we can create solutions that address uncertainties, foster competitive bidding, and ensure the successful delivery of essential community projects.”
VRCA is inviting municipalities to join in reviewing contract templates and to explore ways to incorporate financial protections that will foster a sustainable and thriving construction industry.
“Collaborative Contracts continue to be buzzwords around construction procurement options. This is a perfect opportunity to truly collaborate. We believe municipalities and industry can work hand in hand to navigate these challenges,” added Martin. “By fostering strong partnerships, we can ensure that essential community projects move forward without unnecessary delays and impacts on the economy can be in some cases mitigated and in others at least predicted.”
