Falls are one of the leading causes of death and injury on a jobsite. The reason they are such as high risk is because we are constantly surrounded by them. Construction sites don’t always feature the common building elements we come to rely on such as perimeter walls, fully enclosed shafts and more.
We are often exposed directly to edges on construction sites and as a result it’s important to understand what your fall protection options are. Generally there are two different types – fall protection and fall arrest, but in general avoidance should be the first method of approach.
Workers requiring access to exposed areas however do require fall protection. Fall protection isn’t something that comes naturally however and workers to need reminding from time to time.
