With the SuperBowl LI on the television today I thought it would be a good time for an article to help summarize all of the new stadiums under construction or recently completed for football teams around the United States.

Stadiums have been evolving over the years and the new stadiums are some of the most exciting to come out of the NFL. The new stadiums not only feature innovative designs but also push technology to a whole new level.

U.S. Bank Stadium

US Bank Football Stadium

The US Bank Stadium is one of the most recently completed projects. The first game was played at this stadium in September 2016 and came in at around $1.2 billion.

One of the interesting design choices of this project is the fixed roof design which is fairly uncommon for football stadiums. The original desire was to create a retractable roof however the cost was too expensive. Instead they took a route to have the wall panels to be operable allowing for the stadium to experience some of the elements.

The stadium seats anywhere from 65,000 for football games to 73,000.

Mercedes Benz Football Stadium

Mercedez Benz Stadium

Not to be confused with the Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans (which by the way is a great stadium) this stadium is being built for the football team the Atlanta Falcons.

The stadium is currently under construction and is scheduled to be completed in time for the 2019 superbowl (which will be held at the stadium). What makes this place great and innovative for football is that it features a glass roof that will open on sunny days to allow the environment into the stadium.

Open air venues dominate the football league so a covered stadium that opens up provides the best of both worlds. Outside of the roof the stadium will feature a circular LED board around the opening (one of the largest in the NFL).

Los Angeles Rams Stadium

LA Football Stadium

This one is a whopper. Coming in at over $2.5 billion dollars the stadium that has only recently broke ground is being called the ‘Disney World’ of foodball and is the most expensive stadium built for the NFL.

When finishes the stadium will feature a super roof supported by super columns (alot of super for a future super bowl stadium). The stadium is being built to support two professional teams (Rams and potentially the Chargers) and will seat close to 80,000 fans.

The stadium itself is part of the larger City of Champions which is a mixed use district which will be constructed around the stadium feeding to the infrastructure.
